Introduction to Pointe (Demi-Pointe Class)
This class is by teacher recommendation only and is an add-on the to Teen/Intermediate ballet class.
Students are taught the following:
How to break-in toe shoes (shank and box)
- How to correctly sew ribbons and elastic onto the shoe
- Rolling up through the shank, onto the box
- Strengthening exercises of the achilles tendon at the barre
- Working the core muscles at the barre and in centre to maintain balance
- Barre work to promote strength in the arch of the foot (plié, tendu, degage, ronde de jambe)
- Exercises across the floor
Students are given the option to perform steps across the floor en pointe, demi pointe or using the barre as support.
